Let me show you how I used Market and Business Intelligence to close a Senior Backend Engineer role in just 3 weeks.
And if you haven’t seen my earlier Short explaining the difference between the two — go check it out!
For this role, I scanned layoffs.fyi and GitHub bios — found backend engineers laid off from cybersecurity startups in Austin and Denver.
They weren’t weak — just caught in restructuring.
I mapped 15 solid engineers skilled in Python, AWS, FastAPI — many weren’t even on LinkedIn, but actively coding.
That’s Market Intelligence.
Then I looked at our internal hiring funnel — and that’s where Business Intelligence kicked in.
We had 6 HR-screened candidates, but 4 dropped after the first tech round — because we were asking them to sit through a second long tech interview before even meeting the hiring manager. It’s a startup — and most weren’t up for multiple rounds.
So I suggested one consolidated tech panel — just one strong technical round.
That cut our dropouts in half, and we made an offer to the top candidate — he accepted and joined the team.
That said, use both kinds of intel to level up your hiring game.
Happy Sourcing!
